The Carpenter's Helpers

MUMC has organized ministry which will focus on helping others in the local community of Montgomery.  This ministry is called “The Carpenter’s Helpers.”

Mission Statement of
The Carpenter’s helpers

(a ministry of Montgomery United Methodist Church)

To spread the love and care of Jesus Christ through the repair, construction and maintenance of residences of those in need in our community.

  • Men, women and youth are invited and encouraged to volunteer.  Skill levels are unimportant; desire to help others is primary.
  • Clients will come from referrals from the Church and several outside agencies, private and public.

A few of the Carpenter's Helpers' projects:

Margaret Eldridge; Harry Graham; Pearlie Hatchett; Lynn Martin; Candice Baker; Margret Eldred;
Bruce Garrin;Norma Montgomery; Barbara Harris; Gosling; Ruby Mae Bates; Chuck Allen; Lela
Adams ; Shirley Steiger. These projects are various from painting, landscaping-clean up , floor
repair, building a new house, ramp construction, decking; other sundry repairs and construction.
Many Volunteers have given numerous hours and found this Ministry to be very rewarding while
making some new life friends. As one volunteer said” This is the most rewarding thing I have
ever done” and that sentiment is shared by most, if not all, of The Carpenter’s Helpers.

Some of the Carpenter's Helpers' projects:

July, 2010
Montgomery, TX

The Carpenter's Helpers team built the boat used in Vacation Bible School, High Seas Adventure.  Many young feet enjoyed the special boat ride.

June, 2010
Willis, TX

We were approached about helping a young man who is a junior at Willis High School.  Chuck Allen is confined to a wheelchair and could not get on the school bus during wet weather as his chair couldn't go through the wet yard.  Our team built a ramp and a deck so the bus could lower the lift for Mr. Allen.

Baker House Project

February 7, 2009
Montgomery, TX

On Saturday, 2/7/2009, The Carpenter's Helpers began a project on the home of Harry Graham in Montgomery.  They replaced wood trim, power washed, scraped and caulked - all in preparation to paint.  The paint project is being planned as a church-wide project in the next few weeks by team leaders, Mike and Sharon Spinhirne.  The volunteers also raked and cleaned up leaves, transplanted a few small trees and trimmed some overgrown trees.  What a great day of work for one of our own.

The volunteers were:
John McCall Carole Grube
Danny Henson Randy Crum
John Kirby W.T. McRae
Don Earnest Pat Earnest
James Eilers Bud Hamilton
David Peer Leonard Keeling
Carl Herring Tom Sheahan
