MUMC has established a relationship with students, teachers and staff at Montgomery Middle School’s 6th
grade campus. This ministry is an effort to reach out in the community and provide support for both the teachers and students in the Montgomery School District and provide opportunities for people to know more about our Church. This is the first year this campus has had any experience with an adopt-a-school program. It has been a real exciting and learning experience for both the church and the school. Linda Reed and Clara Lynch are co-chairs of this program.
There are three major components to the Adopt-A-School program.
is the focus of the Adopt-A-School Program. Currently there are 12 volunteers who work with students an hour a week at the 6th
grade center. Both men and women mentor and tutor along with one high school senior. They work individually or in small groups in language arts, math, or science. They also work with students in special projects as determined by individual teachers. Approximately eight teachers have requested this support. We are working only with teachers who have requested this service. We expect the program to grow in number of teacher requests, therefore, new volunteers are always welcome and needed. Volunteer training is provided. Volunteers are required by MISD to complete a volunteer services form that includes a background check. Please contact Linda Reed (email@example.com
) or Clara Lynch (firstname.lastname@example.org
) if you would like to volunteer in this program.
In addition, MUMC has a tutoring program for a small of number of students at Montgomery Elementary School. We have two volunteers who work in that program. Clara Lynch oversees the Elementary program.
is provided 5 times a year to the 60 teachers and staff. Goodies prepared by volunteers within the church were provided in September for “Back to school” at the end of the first week, at Halloween and for Valentine’s. In December goodie bags were provided for each staff member. There will be one additional teacher appreciation in April. Each time we have the teacher appreciation, we take the opportunity to provide teachers with information about our church or to share our Christian love. Charlsie Rogge has served as the Chair of this portion of the adopt-a-school. We are always in need of volunteers to both help set up the teacher appreciation and provide “goodies”.
is an area of the Adopt-A-School program in which any member of the church can be involved even from their home. We have a contact at the school site who works with the Co-chair of this team to pray for specific teachers and students as needed. Louise King is the co-chair of the team. Please contact Linda Reed at email@example.com
if you would like to help with this portion of the program.
